Best of the Web

www.liveefficientlywithfocus.com

Focus on Energy’s new Web site makes researching your home’s energy efficiency almost fun with its easy-to-use prompts and colorful design.

The free, user-friendly site does a lot of the work for the user, guiding you through a series of questions and calculating your home’s energy efficiency while suggesting ways to improve it. And the site is not just for homeowners. There are options for apartments, those who rent and more.

Some of the questions are pretty specific — I wasn’t sure offhand how many inches of insulation my attic floor has — but the site makes it as easy as possible, offering tips on how to answer and featuring multiple choice answers for simplicity.

The process took me about 10 minutes to get through; and the result is useful information that could help save money by improving energy efficiency. Results are broken down in a report card with details on how each aspect of your home rates.

The site also includes a number of helpful links along the right side of the page. Information can be found on everything from contractors specializing in energy efficiency to cash-back rewards available for improvements.
